The Colorado Union of Taxpayers (CUT), a leading voice for fiscal responsibility and taxpayer advocacy, proudly announces the 2024 Colorado Legislative Taxpayer Protectors. These elected representatives have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to shielding Colorado taxpayers from unnecessary financial burdens and advancing sound economic governance.
CUT President Kim Monson expressed her gratitude for the dedication of these legislators. “The all-volunteer Board of Directors of CUT recognizes the tremendous pressure legislators face under the Golden Dome to support special interest agendas and ideologies, rather than prioritize their constituents. However, some stand firm for the people. CUT is pleased to recognize them as your legislative Taxpayer Protectors,” Monson stated.
The 2024 Legislative Taxpayer Protectors were selected based on their voting records, which closely align with CUT’s recommendations on key taxpayer-related legislation. Legislators are evaluated using a tiered system: Champions for scores of 90% and above, Guardians for scores between 80%-89%, and Warriors for scores between 70%-79%. This system provides transparency, giving Coloradans a clear understanding of which representatives prioritize fiscal responsibility.

Representative Stephanie Luck emphasized the growing challenges facing taxpayers:
“The Colorado Legislature increasingly disdains people’s unalienable right to property and contract, which means that a family’s wealth amassed by hard work, often over generations, is increasingly at risk of being taken. While it will require all of us acting together to reclaim our societal understanding of first principles, legislators should lead the charge by voting to restore good governance and secure the rights of citizens.”
Representative Ken DeGraaf expressed his commitment to standing firm for taxpayers:
“The Colorado Union of Taxpayers is an outstanding resource for all Coloradans trying to keep up with the mischief being done to their liberty and prosperity under the gold dome. It is an honor to be recognized by CUT as a Guardian of the Constitutional values and sound economic principles that took our country from a nascent backwater to global superpower in less than two centuries. I look forward to standing with CUT for Coloradans in the next session!”
Representative Scott Bottoms addressed the ongoing challenges for individuals and businesses in Colorado:
“Our state leaders are systematically dismantling our businesses and individuals through tax increases. I will always stand against tax increases and try to bring tax cuts to the people and businesses of Colorado. I appreciate CUT and encourage everyone to use them as your information source as we fight for the financial health of our state.”
Reflecting on his recognition, Senator Kevin Van Winkle stated:
“Recognition from the Colorado Union of Taxpayers is high praise, as they work on the front lines to limit out-of-control government by exposing the facts about politicians who lie to grow government on our backs. I’m honored and will continue to fight for the rest of us to stop abusive government.”
CUT’s dedication to taxpayer advocacy remains steadfast. As Monson concludes, “Many governmental entities at the local, county, and state levels greedily view taxpayers as a never-ending golden goose laying infinite golden eggs. This is not sustainable. With everyday Coloradans struggling under the burden of high taxes, fees, rules, regulations, and ordinances, we need even more Taxpayer Protectors representing ‘us, we the people.'”
